Mr. Barrios, Associate Attorney, represents self-insured employers, third-party administrators and corporations in all aspects of workers’ compensation, from the inception of a case to its conclusion.

Before joining Michael Sullivan & Associates, Mr. Barrios was an Associate Attorney at The Law Offices of Jonathan D. Larose in Fremont, practicing family law. He represented clients in matters of divorce, child custody and support and marital finances, developing expertise in Family Code. He supported the firm’s more senior attorneys, appearing in court on behalf of clients and maintaining strong relations with them throughout the litigation process.

As an Attorney Advisor, Mr. Barrios worked for the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Disaster Assistance in Citrus Heights. He drafted and negotiated complex business and home disaster loan contracts pertaining to national disaster survivors, evaluating and ensuring legal compliance with federal and state law. He also provided counsel to the department’s Loan Officers.

As a member of the Bay Area Incubator program to assist new attorneys interested in social justice, he worked as a single practitioner drafting business contracts and Judicial Council forms for his family law clients. He also represented clients in family court. Mr. Barrios volunteered for the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area, working with its Legal Services for Entrepreneurs Clinic, where he advised small business clients about leases and contracts, and conducted intake interviews.

Mr. Barrios was a Bridge Fellow for the Alameda County Superior Court, working with the Hon. Tara M. Flanagan. He conducted research and drafted documents on family law matters, drafted memoranda on evidence, civil procedure and rules of court, and attended hearings and proceedings for family and criminal law matters. He also served as Teaching Assistant for two classes at Golden Gate University School of Law, first in a Property Law class, then working with U.S. Magistrate Judge Maria-Elena James of the Northern District of California in an Evidence class. He also served as her Judicial Extern, and split time as a Judicial Extern for the Hon. Newton Lam and the Hon. Garrett Wong, both of the San Francisco Superior Court.

Mr. Barrios received his Juris Doctor degree from Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco, where he was on the Dean’s List and received a scholarship from the Filipino Bar Association of Northern California. He was a Certified Law Clinician for the university’s Environmental Law and Justice Clinic, President of the Pilipino American Legal Society and a Staff Writer for the Golden Gate University Environmental Law journal. Mr. Barrios received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Riverside.
