Mr. Powell, Associate Attorney, represents self-insured employers, third-party administrators and corporations in all aspects of workers’ compensation.
Before joining Michael Sullivan & Associates, he served as Associate Attorney for CKB Vienna in Rancho Cucamonga, where he conducted client interviews, drafted documents and assisted in preparation for trial in a variety of civil litigation, family law and probate matters. He also appeared at hearings and mandatory settlement conferences.
As a Certified Law Student and later a Law Clerk for R&S Law Group in Orange, Mr. Powell interviewed clients, organized trial exhibits, conducted research, drafted correspondence and documents and assisted the firm’s partners in trial preparation. Concurrent with that experience, he was a Legal Intern for B-PER Electronic in the City of Industry, reviewing commercial retail leases. He also reviewed and revised the company’s handbook on legal compliance, and assisted its HR department with personnel investigations and the application of company policy.
Mr. Powell worked as a Law Clerk for Keller, Weber & Dobrott in Irvine, where he conducted research, drafted documents and assisted the partners in trial preparation. He also maintained billing and accounts receivable files for hundreds of clients. As a Legal Assistant for the Law Offices of Jack M. Early in Irvine, Mr. Powell indexed and organized documents and evidence in preparation for trial, attended client interviews, drafted memoranda, served subpoenas and produced PowerPoint presentations for death penalty seminars.
Mr. Powell received his Juris Doctor summa cum laude from Western State College of Law in Fullerton, where he was Editor of the Law Review’s Year in Review, and previously was a student writer for the publication. He received an Outstanding Achievement Scholarship, and Witkin Awards in three different subjects. He served as Student Extern for the California Court of Appeal’s 4th District, was a Certified Law Student for the College, and a Co-Author and Presenter for an MCLE class at the Peter M. Elliott American Inn of Court. He also authored media alert summaries of 9th Circuit Court cases for the American Bar Association. Mr. Powell received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Irvine, where he was a Tutor in the Humanities ESL program.
