Ms. Sanders, Hearing Representative, represents insurance carriers, self-insured employers and public entities in workers’ compensation lien defense, including all forms of discovery, hearings, negotiations, trials, petitions for reconsideration and resolution of lien issues.
For several years before joining the firm, she worked independently as a workers’ compensation Technical Adviser in Sylmar, representing small businesses on their workers’ compensation and unemployment benefit claims. She developed policies and implemented procedures to enable her clients to comply with state and federal labor laws. She also trained their managers in employee rights and work injury procedures.
As a Fraud Unit Investigator for Chubb Insurance in Los Angeles, Ms. Sanders investigated suspicious workers’ compensation claims involving attorneys and medical providers. She partnered with fraud prevention agencies to identify fraudulent activity and report it for prosecution. Here, too, she trained managers and claims staff as well as employers and brokers on fraud prevention and compliance with fraud regulations. She investigated employer compliance with workers’ compensation, ADA and OSHA laws and regulations.
At Zenith Insurance Co. in Woodland Hills, Ms. Sanders worked as both a Supervisor in the Workers’ Compensation Medical Management Compliance Unit and a Senior Hearing Representative. She developed, launched and directed the workers’ compensation medical management compliance unit to ensure that UR was conducted properly and MPN transfers were proper. She drafted and implemented policies, procedures and strategies to support UR and MPN statutes, and audited the company’s compliance with the application of them. Ms. Sanders trained the claims, medical management, underwriting, marketing and legal staffs, as well as outside partners in UR and MPN compliance, and conducted seminars on workers’ compensation and the rights of injured workers. She also represented the company before WCABs throughout Southern California in all aspects of workers’ compensation, including settlement negotiations.
As Senior Hearing Representative at Republic Indemnity Co. of America in Encino, Ms. Sanders identified workers’ compensation issues for legal attention, and analyzed them for claims staff. She trained staff on workers’ compensation law and regulations, conducted employer site visits and conducted applicant and physician depositions. In addition, she litigated to award AOE/COE and lien cases at multiple WCABs.
AT CBL INC. in Los Angeles, she served as Senior Lien Hearing Representative, and managed lien files, drafted documents and conducted applicant and physician depositions and applicant interviews. She negotiated lien settlements, and here, too, appeared before regional WCABs for MSC hearings, lien trials and conferences.
Ms. Sanders received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in Madison. She also holds a Certificate of Completion in Legal Research from Notre Dame University. She received her undergraduate degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C.
