Richard “Jake” Jacobsmeyer Joins MS&A to Enhance Workers’ Comp Practice

Michael Sullivan & Associates LLP (MS&A) announced today that Richard “Jake” Jacobsmeyer has joined the firm in its Workers’ Compensation Practice. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Jacobsmeyer was a partner at Shaw, Jacobsmeyer, Crain & Claffey.

Mr. Jacobsmeyer is a Certified Specialist in Workers’ Compensation law and brings more than 40 years of experience in workers’ compensation law. During his almost 20-year career as an applicant's attorney, he served on the Board of Governors of the California Applicant’s Attorneys Association in various capacities including Education Chair, Amicus Co-Chair and President of the Northern California Chapter of CAAA.  He has represented employers, insurance carriers and third-party administrators for the past 25-plus years at all areas involving workers’ compensation before the W.C.A.B., but also appellate work, audit representation and claims consulting. 

Mr. Jacobsmeyer's extensive knowledge and proven expertise will significantly augment MS&A's ability to navigate complex cases and achieve favorable outcomes for clients. His deep understanding of the intricacies of workers' compensation law, coupled with his strategic approach to litigation and claims management, will provide MS&A's clients with unparalleled legal representation and support. Mr. Jacobsmeyer has been Co-Editor in Chief of the California Workers’ Compensation Handbook since 2010 and serves on the Lexis Board of Editorial Consultants. He also serves as Amicus Counsel for the Workers’ Compensation Institute and has been a presenter in the Institute’s annual Case Law Seminar for the past 26 years. He has been a frequent presenter for multiple organizations on workers’ compensation topics and issues, including the California Applicant’s Attorneys Association, the Division of Workers’ Compensation, the California Orthopedic Association, the Conference of Workers’ Compensation Judges, and the California Society of Industrial Medicine and Surgery, to name but a few. Mr. Jacobsmeyer has won awards for his work in workers’ compensation, including Comp Laude National Defense Attorney of the Year in 2018 and WorkComp Executive Magazine’s Most Influential People in Workers’ Compensation in 2010.
